Manchester residents got a look at Walmart's drone delivery plan Wednesday night
Wing says its drones deliver fast but carry little
- 5 to 15 min
- average delivery time from store to front door
- 6 miles
- the farthest a drone can travel from the store
- Nearly 3 lb
- the heaviest package a drone can carry

If you shop at the Manchester Walmart, drones may someday carry your order. Wing, an Alphabet company partnered with Walmart, wants to launch delivery from that store. The city held an open house at 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall. Neither company has submitted a formal application.
Wing says its drones lower packages on a tether without landing and take no photos or live video. After the Board of Aldermen presentation Monday, the mayor said he never thought he'd see a rotisserie chicken fly.
- Still needed: site plan and Special Use Permit application
- First stop: Planning and Zoning Commission
- Start date: not this year, even if approved
- Also requested: a future flight demonstration
Manchester isn't alone. Kirkwood voted down its drone permit last month over noise concerns, and Wentzville is drafting new rules. Talks in St. Charles and Maplewood are in early stages, and no delivery drones are flying in the St. Louis area now.
