About this event

Plastic Pollution, Gulf Hypoxia, and Water Quality

Presentation by Jennifer Wendt, Executive Director of MidAmerica Clean Future

7pm presentation (6pm social hour)

Bike Stop Cafe , 701 S Riverside Dr, St Charles, MO 63301

This session explores how plastic pollution, microplastics, and nutrient-driven Gulf hypoxia intersect to shape regional water quality challenges. Jennifer Wendt will discuss how plastics and nutrient runoff move through watersheds, impact aquatic ecosystems, and contribute to downstream conditions in the Gulf. In addition to sharing current data and practical strategies for reducing plastic waste and improving stormwater management, the session will also include time for listening and learning from participants. Their experiences, questions, and local perspectives will help shape a shared understanding of actionable solutions that strengthen water quality and community resilience.
