CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Robert Baker, 44, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident after he fatally struck a pedestrian on Spencer Road on December 19th, 2024—witnesses reported the crash in St. Louis County. First Alert 4
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A stainless-steel sculpture built 49 years ago in Chesterfield is being donated by new owners of a downtown St. Louis office building. City Council approved an $80,000 budget amendment to cover its removal, repair and relocation for display on a concrete pier in the roundabout near Central Park. West Newsmagazine
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Utility bills in the St. Louis area have surged as Ameren, Missouri American Water, and others raised rates by about 12%, adding roughly $30 to monthly expenses for typical households. More increases are planned as state regulators review proposals to fund needed infrastructure updates + future law changes may push costs even higher. St. Louis Post-Dispatch

- ➤ Local high school seniors in Chesterfield can apply for a $5,000 Progress 64 West Entrepreneurial Scholarship by submitting an executive summary of a business plan—applications are open through Oct. 31 with winners set to be announced on Nov. 17 and recognized at a luncheon on Nov. 26. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senate Bill 28, signed by Governor Mike Kehoe in July, will eliminate temporary license plates for dealership purchases and require buyers to pay sales tax when they purchase & receive a paper copy of their permanent plate mailed later. The law applies only to dealership transactions as private sales still require a visit to a Missouri license office, and the new FUSION system will launch in late 2026 or early 2027 to support the change. - ➤ County officials warned seniors that the website Propertyrec.com charged a $30 monthly fee after a $1 property report and did not deliver the required deed for tax-freeze applications. They urged seniors to obtain deeds directly from the county revenue office at 41 South Central Ave—costing about $3 per request—and forwarded complaints to the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. - ➤ Residents who applied for the senior property tax freeze between October 1 and June 30 may soon get emails from the County Department of Revenue as officials review the 82,000 applications—residents with missing documents will be asked to provide details online or in person. County officials said all notices will be sent out by October and those with complete applications need not take further action. West Newsmagazine
