Good morning, Chesterfield.

St. Louis County called on residents to adopt or foster animals after an animal cruelty case on June 25 led to the intake of 40 animals, including two pregnant dogs that gave birth, which added to the shelter’s over 210 dogs.

The county also opened a foster program and will provide supplies and support to families taking in these animals.

The Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center rescued 40 animals in one day after responding to a cruelty case on Thursday and is now asking residents for help adopting or fostering them as its capacity nears 210 dogs — the rescue included two pregnant dogs that gave birth safely along with newborn puppies, four cats, and several other dogs.

Fire and police officials warned Thursday that dry debris in neighborhoods hit by the May 16 tornado is especially vulnerable if illegal fireworks are used during the July 4 celebrations—residents are reminded that selling, possessing and lighting fireworks remain prohibited while extra officers will soon be deployed downtown to enforce the law.
