Good morning, Chesterfield.

An anthropologist at SEMO was reunited with the rare South Cape gorget— a carved and polished shell pendant— that was missing for decades after it was discovered on display at Chesterfield City Hall.

Local historian Michael Kane arranged its return, and SEMO will use the artifact for ongoing archaeological studies.

New Census estimates show Chesterfield is among the top 10 Missouri cities losing residents, with St. Louis City having the largest decline and Kansas City recording strong growth.

City Administrator Mike Geisel said Chesterfield lost just over 500 residents since 2020—fewer children per household and limited development space may be factors.

Missouri is offering a $750,000 pool for temporary wages to workers cleaning up damage from the May 16 tornado in St. Louis and six other counties — cleanup jobs will begin June 1 — as local workforce boards including SLATE help coordinate recovery.
