After a May 16 tornado damaged the zoo’s butterfly wing, staff rescued hundreds of butterflies—entomologist Tad Yankoski transported them to the Butterfly House at Faust Park in Chesterfield.

Former facilities director Gary Clodfelter, fired in May 2024, filed a 10-page racial discrimination lawsuit Tuesday afternoon in St. Louis County Circuit Court—he claimed his termination came after he questioned a hiring decision made to meet DEI goals.
