- ➤ The St. Louis County Animal Care and Control Adoption Center reopened to the public on May 19 after closing on April 30 due to a Parvo outbreak that led to the euthanasia of 19 dogs, and thorough decontamination and staff training gave it a Fear Free Shelter designation—now the center houses 204 dogs and 22 cats. - ➤ Construction on a new middle school space for Visitation Academy at 3020 N. Ballas Road will begin at the end of May with expected completion in August 2026 while the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House in Chesterfield earned accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. St. Joseph’s Academy named Taylor Dace as athletic director effective June 1 and promoted Annie Beekman for a new leadership role, Gary Stevens was named director of marketing for the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, and Chesterfield appointed Wayne Dunker as director of Parks, Recreation and Arts effective May 27. - ➤ A local asphalt company was awarded $109 million by a St. Louis County jury after its supplier sold the wrong base rock that forced the repaving of parking lots at Top Golf in Chesterfield and at the Emergency Operations Center in St. Charles County — the award includes $942,936 in compensatory damages and $108.3 million in punitive damages — following a four-day trial and two hours of deliberation. - ➤ Marquette High School freshmen did well at the DECA International Career Development Conference held April 26-29 in Orlando as Devansh Sharma earned a Top 10 finish in the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism event, making him one of six national finalists from his school.
