BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Anheuser-Busch announced it will spend $300 million this year on U.S. facilities to support job growth and skills training—part of the funds will build a new Technical Excellence Center in Columbus and a digital system to help veterans get manufacturing jobs. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Olympian Simone Biles addressed 3,600 Washington University graduates on Monday, May 12—urging them to be ‘the greatest you of all time’ as they celebrated under rainy skies. Biles—one of the most decorated gymnasts—also received an honorary doctorate while reminding graduates to balance success with wellness. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ French teacher Emily Thompson was surprised when balloons filled her classroom during independent work time and she learned she had won the MHS Community Award—one of two honors in the second annual ceremony recognizing educators. ISS teacher Stephanie Merritt received her award on May 8 as part of the event that honored staff who build strong community ties. Marquette Messenger
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lindbergh Boulevard will close May 27 so that workers can build a new bridge over Deer Creek — located just south of German Boulevard and Conway Road — and work will continue through late July. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ U.S. Rep. Wesley Bell announced last week that Lambert International Airport received a $4.9 million federal grant to design a new de-icing pad and containment facility. The project will eventually cover more than 1.4 million square feet — it is expected to reduce winter delays and protect the environment. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ MetroLink installed turnstiles at nearly one-third of its 38 stations as part of a $52 million security upgrade, but the gates do not work properly since guards must open them manually for each rider. MetroLink said its new fare system will open the gates automatically early next year—ride time may increase until the upgrade is complete. St. Louis Post-Dispatch

- ➤ La Salle Retreat Center on 170 acres — with meeting rooms, a chapel and other spaces — is on sale through the St. Louis-Clayton office of Colliers with the price not given, and it will remain open for the school years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 while the sale may take up to two years to complete.
