- ➤ Veterinary director Doug Pernikoff quit the St. Louis County animal shelter after a parvovirus outbreak led to the euthanizing of 19 dogs. He said he was too old to fight—leaving the shelter to reopen in a few days with other veterinarians on staff. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
