- ➤ Greater St. Louis Inc. appointed Jeff Mazur as senior vice president and chief strategy officer plus Allison Roberts as senior vice president for administration, adding their experience in tech, government and telecommunications to guide the business lobby as it searches for a new CEO after Jason Hall’s resignation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Four individuals, including a former mail carrier who sold a key to postal boxes, pleaded guilty to a scheme that stole and altered checks from mail in 2022 and 2023—Johnathan Barnett received 80 months in prison and will pay $44,135 in restitution while the others await sentencing— as part of a bank fraud operation. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Parkway School District Board of Education voted Wednesday to adopt a uniform cell phone policy for the next school year that bans phones for elementary and middle school students from arrival to dismissal and restricts high school students from using them during class time. The board said the change aims to reduce distractions during lessons — exceptions will be made for emergencies and medical needs. First Alert 4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Supreme Court blocked tougher traffic ticket limits for St. Louis County municipalities — keeping a 2017 ruling in place that found the special law unconstitutional. The unanimous decision was made Tuesday in Jefferson City and stops state efforts to enforce stricter revenue caps. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ Residents asked experts from the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Louis and St. Charles counties, and St. Louis City questions about highways and roads in a live chat at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16th—providing a forum to address local transportation concerns. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ On April 10, local leaders announced a plan to build the Gateway Regional Law Enforcement Training Center for police and sheriff departments across St. Charles, Franklin, Jefferson and St. Louis counties. The center will be funded by a $50 million state grant and is set to include virtual reality simulators, a firing range and simulated urban scenarios — officials say plans for a 20-acre facility along the I-64/40 corridor are under review — to standardize training in the region.
