- ➤ Erica Camp founded Second-Hen’d to help spent hens from commercial egg operations find new homes. The nonprofit has saved 1,065 chickens to date—Camp now seeks dedicated adopters to offer these birds a loving future. First Alert 4
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, April 8, absentee votes showed longtime councilman Dan Hurt leading former councilman Derek Grier 58% to 42% in Chesterfield’s mayoral race. The election will decide the successor to Bob Nation — who retired after 18 years in public office as the city moves forward with downtown redevelopment plans. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ Road improvements begin at the I-64—Hwy. 141 interchange on Monday, April 14, with overnight closures planned for several ramps. MoDOT said the project will widen ramps and adjust lanes to improve safety and ease traffic until late 2025. West Newsmagazine
- ➤ A measure to let the St. Louis County Council fire department directors was defeated so that hiring and firing power stays with County Executive Dr. Sam Page. The proposal had faced legal challenges and controversy + local business leaders and others supported rejecting it. First Alert 4
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Care providers and patients spoke out when a First Alert Four investigation on Monday found safety issues with the new Baxter Novum IQ IV pumps at some BJC facilities. BJC has launched an official review and paused pump roll-out—staff are asked to report any concerns they notice. First Alert 4
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Demolition of Chesterfield Mall is nearly complete and is expected to finish in 30 days. The Sears building will be the last removed while Macy's and Dillard's remain—with Dillard's continuing as a department store and Macy's set for repurposing—as the site prepares for a new mixed-use development that will begin infrastructure work lasting until fall.
