GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri House approved a package of spending bills Tuesday that sets up Senate negotiations over Gov. Kehoe’s $47.9 billion budget proposal. Lawmakers debated school funding cuts—along with state worker pay raises and child care funding—as the plan moves forward.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • A Missouri Senate committee heard testimony Tuesday on a bill proposed by Sen. Nick Schroer—who aims to break utility monopolies—to deregulate the energy market so that more companies can generate power for residents. The proposal would also require a consumer education program to help people avoid fraud when choosing energy providers.  St. Louis Post-Dispatch
  • St. Louis County Health Director Kanika Cunningham said she will prove her case in court after a former worker who resigned in March sued her for civil rights violations and an illegal car search, while county video shows the worker taking documents from her trunk—her lawyer said the claims are meant to discredit whistleblower reports.  First Alert 4

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Demolition of Chesterfield Mall is almost finished as the Staenberg Group prepares the site for its new Downtown Chesterfield project on 90 acres (with 3.5 acres of green space) for homes, shops, and offices. Michael Staenberg said the work will end by April 15 and grading will begin soon while parts of Macy’s and Dillard’s will remain for future use.  First Alert 4
