- ➤ Benson Hill—a local food tech company that had a billion-dollar value in 2021—began a Chapter 11 bankruptcy process on Thursday and plans to sell its business and assets. The company cut its staff from 161 to 107 after trying to lower costs and divest assets during ongoing financial challenges. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
- ➤ Clementine’s Naughty and Nice Creamery owner Tamara Keefe was named Missouri’s 2025 Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration—she started her business in 2015 with her life savings and grew it to eight locations and a 25,000 square foot production facility that ships nationwide. - ➤ Billionaire investor David Hoffmann from the St. Louis area offered on Thursday to start talks about buying Lee Enterprises (owner of Post-Dispatch) to help keep local news strong. Lee said it will review any credible proposal if Hoffmann makes a full offer. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A bomb threat sparked an hours-long search at Mercy South Hospital on Wednesday and police evacuated parts of the facility before tracking the call to 48-year-old Anthony Bauer—who now faces a charge of second-degree making a terrorist threat and is held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. - ➤ St. Louis County Police said they issued an Endangered Person Advisory for 33-year-old Andre Walker, who escaped from a mental health care facility on March 19th around 8:30 p.m.—he is known to be physically violent and was last seen on the 1100 block of Mehl Avenue in a white Chevrolet Impala. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Samuel C Sachs Library in Chesterfield will receive $6 million in TIF funds to remodel its building into a 20,700-square-foot branch with meeting rooms+study areas and a coffee shop. The city council approved the intergovernmental agreement on March 17, and work will start when the plan is finalized. West Newsmagazine
- ➤ Experts from the Missouri Department of Transportation answered questions about highways and traffic lights during a live chat on March 19th. The chat started at 1 p.m. and included participants from St. Louis and St. Charles counties as well as St. Louis City. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A group of senior citizens from the Memaw Brigade helped first responders train for emergencies on March 20th—role-playing falls and illnesses to learn how to better care for older patients. The exercise aimed to improve handling and safe transport of seniors during real emergencies. First Alert 4
