- ➤ Earthquake experts showed a new online tool Tuesday at an Earthquake Summit in Cape Girardeau that shows what might happen if a big quake hits the New Madrid fault — one scenario near Sikeston could cause 533 deaths, over 20,800 people to lose their homes and $75.8 billion in damage. The tool was developed over 18 months to help with planning — officials say it gives a clear picture at the county level as experts warn a big quake is possible in the next 50 years. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Most Missouri counties saw foster kids stay in care longer than the federal standard that calls for 35% to exit with a permanent placement within one year, with only 12 counties meeting this goal and none in the St. Louis metro area. The state is planning team decision-making meetings and legislative changes to improve placement stability and speed up permanent placements. St. Louis Post-Dispatch
