About this event
The Sam Fox School, in collaboration with TechArtista and the Lewis Collaborative, is excited to present the exhibition, Return to Sender, opening on November 6th, from 6-9PM at TechArtista.
Return to Sender explores what happens to communication when the intended person, place, or thing can’t receive the message. How does this disruption within our notions of communication alter our relationship to the message and its legibility? The works within the exhibition question these notions through materials and visual manipulations spanning across paintings, drawings, sculptures, fiber, printmaking, and photography.
Generally, communication is an exchange of ideas and information between a sender and receiver. However, within the process, the message could be misinterpreted, lost to time, or insulated from its context. The works within the exhibition suggest alternative methods that open up room for more poetic gestures and translations.
The 18 artists within the exhibition fluctuate in legibility, altering and expanding our perception of how these disruptions could be utilized to obscure and reveal the intended message. The works converse across different themes, addressing interpersonal relationships, nature, art historical canons, physical spaces, and the body.
