About this event
How does extreme weather impact public health in St. Louis? Join us to answer this question through a collaborative, hands-on Climate & Health Data Jam! Participants will learn key foundations of how climate and public health data are generated, and then, together, we will take a deep dive in to selected data sets at the intersection of climate, environment, and human health.
We will focus especially on exploring impacts of recent extreme weather events in St. Louis (e.g., extreme rain events; the May ‘ 25 tornado). Blending creativity and problem-solving, we will work in teams to uncover new insights that highlight the impacts of weather and climate on public health in Missouri and the bi-state region. P articipants will develop visualizations, models, and analyses while connecting with others interested in climate and health. Over lunch, we will discuss our findings and share ways that our ideas might seed new opportunities for collaborative scholarship such as grants, papers, student projects, works of art and community engagement.
This event is open to all WashU students, staff, faculty and postdocs from all schools and divisions. Coding or data analysis experience is welcome, but not required ; all you need is curiosity and an interest in exploring what data can tell us about climate and weather impacts in our region.
