About this event
An Evening of Words + Sounds Featuring the Work of Terrance Brown
Join us at Dissonant Works for an evening celebrating the release of Terrance Brown's forthcoming chapbook, Cups of Water , alongside a showcase of his other forthcoming work, Bodies in Blank Space .
Terrance Brown
A writer and poet from St. Louis, Missouri, Terrance has previously been published in Bellerive's Sonder , Wusgoodblack, Bad Jacket , Poetry Potion, Entropy Magazine , FIYAH, and Breadcrumbs Magazine. He is the author of two forthcoming chapbooks, Bodies in Blank Space and Cups of Water .
Terrance believes in "word as a fulcrum to motion. The space between the page, the stage and the audience's ears is where unexplainable alchemy happens."
When he's not writing, he's organizing with the Party for Socialism and Liberation in efforts to organize the masses for a future that puts the people first. He has also been featured on the One Mic Radio Show through 89.5 KOPN FM.
The evening will feature special performances by Pacia Elaine, FreeMynd, and VNUS.
Featured Artists
Pacia Elaine
Pacia is the People's Poet, forever cognizant of the inner weavings that make the city what it is, for better or for worse. She's a wordsmith capable of crafting space shuttles from her diction so that a listener can traverse the nebula without ever leaving their seat. Or she can take you around the corner to the neighborhood store. She has that type of range.
Pacia Elaine is an Urban Bush Women SLI alumna, a 2020 New Leaders Council St. Louis alumna, and a founding member of the youth-based art camp Cherokee Street Reach.
A graduate of the Regional Arts Commission's Community Arts Training (CAT) Institute, Pacia now heads the Institute as its program lead. She is a past Creative Director of the St. Louis Brick City Poetry Festival and a Missouri Regional Coordinator for the NEA-sponsored Poetry Out Loud youth recitation competition. In 2020, she was honored with the St. Louis Visionary Award for Community Impact Artist.
In 2016, Pacia released her first spoken word poetry album, circa.ep . Her work has been published in Humans of St. Louis , Drumvoices Revue , Crossing the Divide , ArtsLink , and All the Art , among others. She has also been featured through partnerships with St. Louis Public Radio and NPR.
You can catch her alongside the Ish Ensemble at the Melvin Theater on the first Thursday of each month for the Poetry Jam.
FreeMynd
FreeMynd is the brainchild of Maryland-born MC OneLyfe and St. Louis producer Wavy. Backed by a full band, the group blends blues, hip hop, reggae, rock, and funk, bringing insightful lyrics, crisp drums, creative guitar riffs, and most importantly, vibes.
Their releases include OneLyfe , Billion Dollar Dreams , Sounds of Liberation , and Monster , and they're just getting started.
VNUS
VNUS is a St. Louis-based R&B artist whose work combines a meticulous approach to melody, pen game, introspective lyrics, and vocal range. She's released Voice Memos and Lost & Found and is always crafting new music for future generations.
Her primary concern is creating timeless music. A true student of the game.
